Malting news Finland: Viking Malt announces commencement of works on new malting house in Lahti

Malting firm Viking Malt Group announced on June 15 that work has commenced on a new, €90 million malting house in Lahti, Finland. A company release said a ceremony was held at the site to mark the placement of the facility’s foundation stone, powderbulksolids.com reported.

Slated to go into operation in 2023, the facility will have a capacity of about 85,000 tonnes/year. The company said the opening of the new plant provides an opportunity to implement new technology that will increase efficiency and offer environmental benefits.

“The world around is changing, technology develops, and sustainability becomes more and more in the centre of everything we do. We are doing our bit to shape this change and in doing so, we are undergoing our own transformation,” said Pär-Gustaf Relander, the owner of Viking Malt, in a statement. “Our culture and values are the foundations for this.”

Viking Malt serves the food, beverage and brewing industries. It currently has production assets across give countries, including Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Lithuania, and Poland, with a combined production capacity of 600,000 tonnes/annum. The firm employs 260 workers.
